Debris collection?

Oh wise sages of the internetz...

Perhaps I'm overthinking this... perhaps I'm attempting to invent a $10 solution to a 50 cent problem, as the saying goes, but I'm curious how others solve this. When I skim/rake the pool, I have to dump the junk somewhere. Currently I just use an old small household plastic trash can that the previous owners left behind. The issue is moisture -- the wet leaves and such stay wet and then the bucket ends up reeking of mold/mildew/other putrid nasty when I empty it out weekly into the main bin for garbage day.

Option A: Drill a few small holes in the bucket to let water drain. This might help a bit, but I don't know how effective it will be.

Option B: Construct some sort of receptacle out of mesh? I was thinking some kind of simple PVC pipe frame with a mesh bag, but I'm finding it surprisingly difficult to find the kind of bag that I'm looking for. I thought it would be super easy. I was wrong. I thought about hacking something together maybe with a piece of mosquito netting, but it seemed like more work than it should be.

Where are you all dumping the junk that you scoop out of your pool? I can't be the only one that uses some sort of intermediate storage for it until it goes into the main collection bin?

I dump mine into the garden beds and grass for Skippy to mow up. He mows twice a week during this time of year so it never stays around to be an eyesore long. And of course we're not getting much except some occasional pine needles.

We dump ours in the large trash can near the pool

Do you have issues with the wetness/rotting in the can? It's much more humid in TN than it is in AZ (even during our monsoon season) so I would think damp rot would stink up the place.

Yeah I can't really go that route... I have a lot of junk that comes off 5 large ficus trees and surrounding palms. I only have a tiny patch of grass and I mow it with a push reel mower so debris in the grass needs to be removed, not added to. :)

If anyone was curious... I got bored/inspired the other day and I threw this thing together. It works as intended... it holds the debris and is breathable so everything can dry out and doesn't stink of rot. When it gets full I can dump out the bag and wash it out with the hose.

How far away is the neighbors yard? [emoji41]
