Debating a 6'x8' corner sunshelf

A friend of mine has a corner sunshelf, with stairs into the pool. I am debating if its worth the $2700 extra? I almost feel like the only ones on it, are his grandkids, and dogs. I am wondering if the novelty will wear off quickly?

That's subjective on the pool owner. :(

I for one, built a swimming pool and funneled every available penny into getting more swimming pool.

Others want to enjoy 'being in the pool' while kinda not really being in the pool.

Other others split the difference and build a sport pool for volleyball and such.

Other other others get a tanning ledge, a larger shallow end and also a deep end for complete versatility.

Crud. I just made it worse I think. Apologies. 😁

We just did a renovation and added a baja shelf.
It seems that there are two standard heights for a shelf: 9" and 15".
If you look at photos of the ledge lounger type chaises, the water only covers your swim trunk area and the rest of your body is out of water, tanning I guess.
We are more about soaking and sipping beverages than sunning ourselves.
Sitting in 9" of water isn't appealing for that, so we put the ledge at 15". Sitting on a ledge that height brings the waterline to nipple height.
It's relaxing to sit there, mostly underwater, chatting with friends and sipping on a beverage.
Then we have the whole rest of the pool for actual swimming.
We use the ledge 100% of the days that we get in the pool.

We have one and for the last 10 years each grandchild has enjoyed splashing on it as they become used to being in the pool and eventually get brave enough to get off that step. Before that, with tweens and up, not so much but my wife and I rest our arms there in the shade of an umbrella as we cool off from yard work. Purely owner-specific, however we are glad we have it for the kids.

So are you tinfoilhat from durango forum??? And thanks for the answer, no grandkids, for atleast 10 years, if ever. So I might pass on the shelf.

We put in an 8ft long bench that's 18 inches deep and while I was sad to lose valuable deep end space under the 'happy wife' principle, i became a big fan quickly.

Nice Pool! We wont have a deep end
It'd be nice to sit anywhere in the pool.

That's my beef with the 3.5 inch (water height) shallow end. It's too deep to sit but to shallow to comfortably kneel and we do this akward half and half bob.

We sit on the steps too, but they aren't as wide so while it works, it isn't as comfortable for lounging. The Mrs will sit sideways on the bench and read for hours.

Yes sir! I just now flipped over from there and thought I recognized your name from there too. Funny I didn't recognize it yesterday. Good to see you here too. This forum is one of three very active forums I reside on. There's also a good vending machine forum that I've been on the longest. Much like the industry pros here, I had 35 years in vending before I got out of it but I can still give heaps of advice there. That's why I love having the pros on this forum.
