Dead Polaris booster pump

My booster pump was making a foul noise earlier this spring, sounding like a bearing was going out. I've had it shut off for a couple months and we just vacuum as needed to keep the bottom clean.

This weekend I turned on the booster pump just to verify the noise and try to troubleshoot some more, and it won't even turn on. It acts like it's seized.

My question is this: how difficult is it to swap out a pump? I have a Jandy AquaLink control board. I've done electrical work and am pretty handy and just hate to pay someone to do what I can do. Anyone had to do this?

Easy to do if your knowledgable about electricity and wiring. I did bearings in mine once and installed a new seal at the time. After 5 more years, the motor bolts were rusted in place and Unable to disassemble the motor end bells. Cost of a new motor wasn’t much less than a complete unit so,went that way. 30mins of work to swap it out.

The video pretty much sums up my experience replacing mine. A couple things I ran into that aren't in the video - my pump was totally corroded so I had to cut the power wires and break the bonding connector off vs unscrewing anything. The problem with cutting the wires is you now have a few inches less wire. Luckily, I had a re-designed pump - the PB4SQ - and it's wiring compartment is on top rather than the back so I didn't need the extra inches of wire (made it easier to wire, too). Also, the bonding "nut" was an open design (u shaped) so you just lay the wire in and screw it down, rather than having to thread it thru (O shaped, and cut and re-link the bonding wire - my bonding wire was looped to other equipment rather than ending at the pump like in the video).

Although the PB4SQ is much more expensive, I highly recommend it. It is very quiet, and supposedly more energy efficient (I haven't compared). It should also last longer since it is a enclosed motor design. My original polaris pump lasted ~17 years, but from reading the comments on Amazon, the newer ones seem less durable (like everything else). I mostly bought it because it was quiet, and have not been disappointed.
