De filter short cycle

Well we are going with your recommendation. Drain and fill and start over. Yipee.... Maybe then we can get somewhere. I may be back for more advice. I was on here a lot previously a few years back when we had the dreaded baquacil that would not clear up so we did a switch to chlorine. That was fun. I think you may have helped us at that point. Right now. Our water is cloudy. When the pump is off it settles to the bottom and the water is clear. I posted our chemisty to you earlier. Pool was very dirty upon opening with tons of leaves that were all vacuum out. We had clear water for a week but the pump was only running for 1 hour and then needing a bump.

The pump and filter have basically been down for about a week and half. There was nothing on the bottom until we added the 50 lbs of bicarb and the stabilizer which was granular. Then we saw this buildup but with a filter that only works for an hour it has made it impossible to run and vac

OK. I hope you are still available to help me. After 2 long days we drained the pool at least half and started over. I vacuumed the pool today and got up all of the yuck from the bottom. It looks like sand. My readings fc 10 cya 100 all 120 pH 7.2. I am going to bump the filter every hour and change the de multiple times today. And half way through I am going to hose off filter fingers. Do you think we are on the right track?

Your CYA is still much too high. You should replace at least half the water again. Do the CYA test starting with half pool and half tap water, doubling the result to get a better idea.

Yeah we can try that but we really can't drain pool again. The water is clear just a little cloudy. We pass the slam test minus the clear water. So I think I am just going to run a high chlorine level for now and hope the cya will decrease over time. If we don't add anyone stabilizer will the number eventually go down??

The FC level you posted is way below SLAM level. Remember you can not accurately test the pH when FC is over 10.

CYA only goes down a meaningful amount when you physically remove water.

why in the world are you adding stabilizer when your CYA is already too HIGH?
