CYA test

How accurate is the CYA test for the Taylor 2006 test kit? Isn’t is subjective and eye-sight specific as to when the black dot disappears? Is it when it completely vanishes? What light source?

I am trying to balance the pool per recommended values here before I add the boric acid. (Btw my pool company had never heard of adding Borates to a pool. They are hopefully short lived in helping me manage my pool)

This morning was
ph 7.5
TA 80
CYA 40-50 (totally gone at 40)
CH 350
FC 6.5


I have added MA this morning to reduce PH AND TA. I will add this afternoon a dose of CYA and get it closer to 70.

I have 28,000 gallons plaster SWG salt pool

55 lbs. Of boric is acid from Duda arrives later this week.

Any my advice or suggestions?

Dot should be completely gone. Don't get too hung up on an exact number.

If concerned, just round up when you determine your FC target levels.
