CYA Questions

I am adding CYA using the sock method. Two (possibly dumb) questions. First, I have read I can squeeze the sock periodically. Is it really ok to put my hands on a sock full of acid? And second, CYA is an acid and acid lowers PH, so I will be adding sodium carbonate to raise the PH as needed. Doesn't raising the PH just cancel out the CYA? Thanks

CYA is an extremely mild acid. It might dry your hands out a bit if you squeeze the sock a lot in a short period of time.

It will lower your pH by a very minor amount. It is not likely you will need to do a chemical correction for that as pH will rise with natural aeration.

CYA is not canceled out by raising pH.
