Hi everyone,
so I was just reviewing the basic recommended levels and it says for my pool the CYA should be between 40-50 but I’ve always kept it at 30. I know 30 is the minimum but is it better for it to be a little bit higher? I was just wondering, thank you!

A little higher may not be a bad thing. Much depends on your location, temperatures, intensity of sunlight, etc. You can imagine someone like me in south TX would need a much higher CYA that someone in your region, but you still have your hot months. I would venture to guess a CYA of 40 is reasonable and perhaps 50 in the peak of summer for a non-salt pool. Perhaps some other locals will reply with their experience.

I'm personally aiming for 30 so that I have some "room" in the event I need to use tabs this year for when we go on vacation. And my pool apparently loves to hold CYA so getting it out once in is not that easy. But if you've kept it at 30 without issues, then I don't know that there's a strong case to raise it.
