Hello, I added liquid conditioner which consisted of about 20 ppm on day 4 of my start up, test confirmed at pool store on a few occasions. This weekend I added enough based on the dry stabilizer’s container and TFP for the extra 10 ppm. I did the sock method on Sunday and fully dissolved in about 10 hours. I went to a different pool store yesterday and it reflected my cya is 24 and the other store showed 21 prior to me adding more. my test can’t read it since it goes to 30 ppm. Some say it takes about a week to show on a test or takes a few days. Should I wait longer or add?

Wait it out. With a fresh fill this is the only time you are certain your start point is 0. You'll be mostly on target because the pool volume should be close enough for government work.

Next spring when it sat most the winter and got hit with April showers, you'll only know it's under 30 and will have to add by 10s until it registers.

thank you, it’s weird because the liquid said it would be 20ppm and it came in at that and I followed the measurement of the dry. From my research it doesn’t appear stabilizer becomes ineffective because it was from Jan that I picked up at the pool store.

I do have another question with regards to chlorine effectiveness. I purchased 12.5% from the pool company and based on playing with the calculator and how much it increases it’s about 7%. I am not sure how to calculate the % if 11 oz per 10k yields .60 ppm. I had to keep playing with pool math to calculate the strength. I am not sure who can help with that.

Is it best to purchase from Walmart? I am trying to figure out a better place to purchase chlorine. Based on the loss chart on that 12.5% it’s about accurate being 7% after 60 days.

It really doesn't matter. 😁 You got weak chlorine that didn't do what you expected. It gave you however many FC it did. Staying free and clear abive minimum by tomorrow's test is the worry, not what actual strength it was.

Did it have a date code on it ? 23xxx or xxx23 ?

If both strengths are as they should be, the 12.5% is 25% stronger so it can cost that much more to make it an even trade.

At the usual WM price of $5.67 plus tax (8.8% here in NY), that means anything under $7.70 for 12.5% is the better bargain.

It did , it was from June so 60 days old, I didn’t think it would be coming in about 7% if I recall 4 gallons was about 21.00 at 12.5% so cheaper than Walmart but I’m losing on the strength if Walmart can be around the 9%
