CYA at 140 Help!

My CYA is at 140 and FC is 1.7. I was advised to drain and refill. Also advised to turn OFF my chlorine tower and only use shock or liquid chlorine every 3-4 days until CYA is down, then maintain with liquid chlorine/bleach.
Does this sound right?

Hi, welcome to TFP! Draining is right. Turning off the chlorine feeder is right. Maintaining with liquid chlorine is right. I would not use any dry shock product that contains dichlor or trichlor as an active ingredient. I would stick with liquid chlorine and I would check chlorine levels daily until I had a feel for how much chlorine my pool uses on an average day. 3-4 days would be to long a gap between chlorine doses.
We have an app with a free basic version that will help you determine amount and frequency of chemical additions. PoolMath Do you have a test kit?
