we had trouble early in the year with keeping our pH down. I think we’ve got that under control (I know it’s a little high now- I need to add some acid in), but I have been unable to get our CYA up. I added 2 pounds about two weeks ago and another 2 pounds about five days ago. The reading is still zero. Im afraid to put too much in too quickly as we had to drain half of the pool last year for other reasons (before I found TFP). Is there is something else I should be doing before getting the CYA under control? We have had some algae in the pool but it went away once we raised the chlorine to five. Do I need to SLAM the pool before getting the CYA up or is there something else to do?
We have been adding 1-2 gallons of bleach every two days and have the SWG set at 85%. Water is clear and pool looks great. Appreciate any advice.

2lbs of CYA will increase your CYA by 11 - for 4lbs, 22. This is hardly noticeable on the CYA test. Why are you adding so little? To increase your pool from 0 to 70 you would need @ 13lbs of stabilizer. I suggest adding 5lbs and seeing where you stand.

Also can you post a pic of the CYA you are using?

How old are your reagents?

Your pH is fine. You will find that your pH will be stable around 7.8 with a TA of 90 or less. Stop trying to force it down, just keep it around 7.8.

You added 4 lbs, of CYA which would have added 22ppm. I wouldn't be afraid to add another 4 lbs. That would get you to 40, or if your water has been warm and the CYA has degraded 40. Do not fear CYA up to 70 or 80 with the SWCG.

If you added 20ppm of CYA your FC is low. When put the sock in the pool with CYA, treat your CYA as what is in the pool. If you were at 0 and added 20, your CYA is 20 for chlorination purposes when the sock hits the water. Always follow this-->FC/CYA Levels

To rule out algae, do this test tonight. Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

If you fail OCLT, then SLAM. Link--->SLAM Process

It’s the Pro Team UV Shield. Is there a better kind?
I was just afraid to raise it too high too quickly.
Thank you for the feedback! I will try 5 lbs.

Thank you. Will try these!! Our kit is less than a year old (TF-Pro)
