New house, new pool. Even the pool guy who just yesterday installed a Pentair iChlor30 couldn't figure this one out. The plumbing has faucets for the male end of a garden hose immediately after the pump and a faucet for the female end immediately after the cartridge filter. The only things of which I can think is that they are for draining the pool or that, somehow which I fail to understand, a garden hose connected to both of them could function as a solar heater of sorts, maybe? Would that even work since the hose would have pressure on both male and female ends? All comments appreciated.

Dual purpose perhaps. To let water go to waste at times, or perhaps serve as a low-flow bypass from the filter altogether if ever needed.
That would explain the valve in between the pump and the filter. Can't imagine a situation in which such a bypass would be helpful.
