Crazy Salt readings

I just conveyed my pool to salt water and befor adding any salt yesterday I tested the salinity of he water. It came up 100ppm. So according to the Hayward aquarite chart I should have added 850ish lbs of salt to achieve 3200ppm. I shot way low and added only 550lbs and figured less is best. My Taylor drop kit is reading 8000ppm. I put 40 drops in befor it turns Brick red. My salt controller is reading 3200 ppm. How could readings be so off? I’m a bit confused. According to Hayward chart at 550lbs of salt for a 33,000 gallon pool I should only be around 2400ppm. Any insight?

Are you using a speedstir, or swirling by hand?

Also, reading the salinity level on the controller is not always accurate. There could be an issue with the salt sensor. In any event, the cell will generate chlorine at the level "it thinks" it is, even if its different on your test. So for example I'm confident that my client's salt level is 3200-2500 based on four separate tests. The reading on the controller shows levels at 4500, then 5100 then 6150. I'm confident that the sensor is bad. Even if my testing is correct, it's not going to generate salt. Ugh.

The salt test usually jumps right to red for me. Certainly all the color change happens in 1-2 drops.

How much water were you using in the salt test? Any chance you accidentally used 25 ml instead of 10 mL?
