Crack in pool bottom

Hi,

I live in the Raleigh NC area. I have a 45ish year old concrete pool with a crack in the bottom. It has been unused and uncovered for 3 years.

First problem. The pool is surrounded by pine trees that dump detritus in the water. It’s a swamp at this point. Really gross. Any suggestions about how to clean the pool out? Are there any folks in the Johnston County area that clean out pools? My husband has thought about getting a septic tank cleaner to suck up all the muck.

Second problem. Then we need someone to fix the crack in the shallow end. Is there any one in the JoCo that can repair the concrete?

Thanks so much!

A septic pump from the hardware store is ok to use to pump out the water. You do need to be aware of your local water table to be sure there isn’t a high water table in the area around the pool that could pop it out of the ground.

A plaster contractor should be able to advise on repairing the crack. It’s not fun or cheap.

You have 2 issues to deal with
a) getting rid of the pool contents
b) fixing the crack.
My recommendation to you is the following: the pool is old and you'll be fixing one crack after the next. Have a custom liner measured for the pool cavity and call it done. You want the pool, you need to cut your loses otherwise you'll be throwing lots of money at it and still have a headache. I have one such pool and it's amazing what a liner did.
