Could use some advice on a pool interior renovation

Hi All - we bought a home that has an existing pool about 7 years ago. The pool is 20 years old. The pool is concrete with Pebbe Tech. We have some interior repairds to the pebble tech and such and I was told last year we were nearing the end of life, and a complete redo would be needed.

In addition to normal wear and tear from freeze/thaw, there are two rust spot working through (due to rebar). One is on the vertical side of a step. I patched it myself with a putty five years ago, and it hasn't gotten worse, but it's not great. The other is on the floor in the shallow end, and it is about a silver dollar size now. It started small about 2-3 years ago.

The Pebble Tech contractor came out and was worried about the rust, but it may have been a factor in his recommendation to do the complete re-do.

So, the issue with the redo is that it is expesive (really expensive), and as the Pebble Tech dealer here is the only one in the area (exclusive), they are in high demand and can't really commit to a start stop date. It's more like you commit to the project and they do it when they do it. They only do them from late February to late November. It could be May or June, and might take 4-8 weeks to complete and cure and we would love a good chunk of the already short pool season.

I have no reason to not like the Pebble Tech contractor. They have been great on repairs and such, though it not cheap. They seem honest and knowledgable, but with this being a huge spend, I wanted to ask if they are any options other than PebbleTech these days??

Thanks!

Sure, lots of finishes to choose from.

I like my Hydrazoo polished marble finish...

Stonescapes has pebble finishes....

For your rebar rust stains the correct fix is to chip down to the rusting rebar, cut it out, and then fill the hole with hydraulic cement, and plaster over it.

You should get a full chipout of your old Pebbletech finish using straight chisels, not pointed chisels.
