I have a mineral cartridge that fits in my SWG unit. I don’t replace it because it’s expensive and I think I remember folks here don’t think they are necessary. I saw a video where a guy put copper plumbing fittings in his skimmer. Copper and silver are what are in my mineral cartridge. So, any thoughts in adding copper fittings in the skimmer or is it hogwash?

Do not add copper anything to your pool. Causes staining and green hair.

Use only these chemicals in your pool:

+1. You can't prevent something that's already prevented. Or you're not doing it right, and need to fix *that* instead of adding copper.

Algae in a pool is like a canary dying in a coal mine. The canary dying is telling you the air isn't safe to breathe. Algae in a pool is telling your your chlorine is too low and isn't safe to swim in.

All the magic potions (copper, algaecide, etc) aimed at killing algae is like removing the canary. Better to just follow the chlorine to cya ratio (Free Chlorine and Cyanuric Acid Relationship Explained). Then you won't have algae AND your pool will be safe to swim in!
