Connecting Aqua Critter to an Intex pool

Hey all! First-time poster. So this is my second season with my Intex and I finally got tired of manually vacuuming (who has the time?) After a bunch of research I ordered an Aqua Critter (AquaBug)... but it's left me feeling really stupid. I just can't figure out how it's supposed to connect to the filter! The Bug came with this "skimmer cone adapter" (the white thing on the end of the vacuum hose pictured), but the cone is too loose and doesn't stay put in the hose adapter. If the hose moves at all, it just falls out. Videos like this imply it should just work out of the box. What am I missing?

The most common problem seems to be air leaks between the pool wall and the pump, also make sure all air is out of the vacuum hose and the vacuum itself. Next is typically the too-small pump and filter that comes with these pools - what do you have?
