We have ND (not detectable) iron in the water but eyeballs / baskets etc turn yellow over time so must be some.

When we had the pool resurfaced contractor put in Orenda SC1000 to suck up metals in fill water

SC1000 bottle says maintenance dose is 6oz/10000 biweekly and is needed only in the summer so I put in a maintenance dose

Bottle says startup dose will deplete FC, but nothing about maintenance dose but checked anyway and sure nuff

Stuff added about 8am
Checked at about 4pm and found FC gone

Added couple gal 10% chlorine and FC went right up to 5 and stayed there. Also had to add acid.

So seems even maintenance SC1000 depletes what is in the pool but after some time, this process ceases

Called Orenda who said…
SC1000 binds stuff; after binding it can bind no more; so after a few hours it can no longer bind chlorine; after a few hours put the chlorine back
They are thinking to change the label
They are considering changing maintenance does to 3oz/10000 weekly

So with SC1000
After 7 mo eyeballs are white; nice
6oz/10000 will bind up FC so after eight hours must put it back
So actual cost is cost of SC1000 plus cost of chlorine and acid plus time

Dunno if I will keep on using it but white eyeballs and baskets are surely nice

Try putting polyfill in your skimmers to filter out the iron as the SC1000 loses effectiveness.

so is it not too little too small to filter?
You are essentially correct. if it is in solution now (you can't see it) then it will pass through the filter.

If you oxidize it, it will be captured by the polyfill. That said, it is difficult to oxidize ALL of it and make sure it doesn't stick to your pool surfaces.

thanks

that being the case

since
I have a bottle of SC1000 and
chlorine and acid are relatively cheap and
white baskets are nice

I think I will use up the bottle putting the SC1000 in when the FC is already low (to not waste chlorine)

thanks again
