This sure has been a learning experience and I have learned all of my information from here, so thank you all for that! After a lot of testing, I have found this strategy to work mostly well for me.
-Once CYA level reaches 30-40 using dichlor I switch to liquid chlorine.
-We use the two of us use the tub a lot and after each use I add about 3oz of chlorine.
-Rince filters with hose every month or so
-I have to add more chlorine every 3-days between use otherwise the water gets cloudy and lots of bubbles. I can usually get it back down after a few days of keeping chlorine at or near SLAM levels.
-Change water every 4 months or so using an Ahhhhsome purge
The questions I have:
-Is it normal for the plastic on the filters to fade some? I noticed mine are doing that and I am not sure if that is a sign of something wrong with the chemistry. Assuming it is just from chlorine.
-The cap on the inner filter came unglued today. What could cause that? Time for a replacement I guess.
-Does adding 3oz every 3-days seem too often? If it goes to 4-5 days all havoc breaks loose. I thought having the UV ozone thingy would help, but I guess not. I did read the AC would help with that which is why I am considering that now, but is is expensive
-Is there a better way to clean the filters rather than rinsing with hose?
-How often do you replace your filters? The price of these add up quickly if I follow the manufactures directions.
-I started reading about the Aqua clarity from the same company that makes ahhhsome. Sounds to be promising. Any feedback on that? Is it more cost effective to use the Gel for purges and the AC for daily maintenance?
