I have a 15-year-old salt water fiberglass pool and it is constantly cloudy with fine dirt on the bottom. The chlorine generator is new and working well and the chemical balance is good. I had a Hayward sand filter with glass media installed, replacing a cartridge filter, two years ago and the water has never been clear. The company who installed the filter said I have dead algae and no filter will clear it, which I doubt. I've never had an algae problem. I think it's possibly calcium particles, since it's a white cloud when the water is stirred. I had an independent contractor who swore I must have a cracked lateral, so he disassembled the filter and the laterals are fine. Clarifiers and flocculants clear the water, the dirt settles to the bottom, I vacuum to waste but the cloudiness and dirt returns. The pool is covered in the winter and used just a few times in the summer. I vacuum weekly and I'm trying a Barracuda pool vac, but it stirs the water so much you can't see it on the bottom of the pool. When people swim, the water becomes so milky it's dangerous. Any ideas?
