Cloudy water

Stabilizer stays very steady throughout the year. Pretend it never goes away.

You don't want to add too much or you go "down" the chart more and have to use more chlorine to get to Target and Slam levels. 50-60 is plenty but you don't want to go any higher than that. If you have any socks in the pool I would remove them immediately.

You need to be testing and adding more than twice a day but less than every hour until your SLAM is over. Not "in the next few days".

Don't worry about what anybody else thinks, read the SLAM article over and over until it clicks, test often and keep FC at the SLAM level best you can.

Unless you are losing water you shouldn't need to add stabilizer. It doesn't go anywhere like the chlorine does. If you notice on the chart as the CYA levels go up so does the chlorine (FC) target range. That's why people using pucks fight a losing battle. The pucks keep bumping the CYA up as the person is trying to raise the FC level with them.

Oh good to know about the stabilizer:)

I'm not SLAMing yet. Was just trying to get the chlorine up so i can do the OCLT to see if I need to SLAM, but we put in too much chlorine, now its too high to swim in so we have to wait until it goes down to even swim in it.

I didn't test CC but ph was fine. I did read up about the CC. But i did the FC twice and one time last night. I didn't feel like wasting more drops and doing it again. I will test everything tomorrow

Oh wow! See i still wouldn't go in or let my daughter in with it that high. We both have sensitive skin and skin issues so that's a no no for us. Too much chlorine can't be good for out sensitive skin.

But is it all bound to the CYA.
The FC at shock level has an active chlorine level that is similar to a FC of 1ppm in a pool with 0 CYA. Many public pools have higher FC than that.

You have to learn to understand the CYA/FC relationship.

I'm trying to get my levels up to where they need to be so i can do the OCLT test to see if i have to SLAM it. I just got the kit over the weekend and did the tests on Sunday afternoon. I know if i have to SLAM, i need to get the stuff to do so, which we haven't had the chance to go out and get. I was able to get some yesterday but not a lot and i know I'll need a lot.

I'm not saying i don't want help. I do. I'm completely new to everything pool related. A week ago i had no choice but to learn it and that's what I'm trying to do. But it takes time.

At this point, after doing the tests 2 days ago, i saw that my levels were all off and needed to get some up. So I'm trying to do that. If doing that correctly can get my pool where it needs to be, why SLAM if it's unnecessary?

I'm afraid of anything to do with something if I'm not 100% sure I'm doing it right. And after mistake last night, I'm very hesitant to try something if i may screw it up.

Sorry if I'm too slow to all this. I just want to do it right and not do things if it's not necessary.
