Cloudy water

our pool gets full day, all day sun also being on the south side of the house.
40-80 oz of 10.5% bleach even on the hottest days (that we've had this year) and max bather load.
some days, like this week and last, when it's cold and cloudy, I do bleach every other day and shift to the OTO test since my CYA dropped.
 
Ugh,I suck! so within 2 hours, the stabilizer dissolved BUT we added TOO much liquid chlorine! Ugh, I'm such an idiot! 2am I was so worried so out I went to test it. We did the color test where you add the 5 drops of the yellow and 5 of the red and then the chlorine test. Got 13 last night. Worried all night, hardly slept. Russo221 tested it with the strip and got 3-6 soI was like oh ok. My brother in law came over to go in the pool so I was like let me test it...the yellow was way yellower then the 5 10, and the FC was 11.5. Geesh, go from 2 to 11.5! I totally forgot the new stuff is much more then the smaller bleach jug and more concentration of it. Then with the stabilizer in it, it's not letting the sun eat the chlorine, but I need it to lol I suck at this :( He's swimming in it...told him it's at his own risk lol

As for the test strip, my husband, Russo221 doesn't have time before work to do the whole test, and I took over the test kit and have it all organized so i said don't touch this. It's mine :) So he used the test strips just real quick. we have the TF-100. I just did my CYA test as well, and I got 50 I believe, definately between 50 and 60, so that's good...but now the sun isn't eating the chlorine quickly like I need it too. Either too little chlorine or too much b/c I'm an idiot womp womp.

So you're saying that 11.5 FC is okay? I thought above 7 is not safe? the CYA got up there from the stabilizer last night, then we added too much liquid chlorine. We took our floaty feeder out as well. I'm just worried about the chlorine level being so high.

I know I had to get my chlorine level up to do the OCLT test to see if I have to slam. But how long does the SLAM process take, from when started to when you can swim? That's my biggest worry. My nephew's grad party is Saturday and he wants to have the lunceon after party here to use the pool. Our water is a bit cloudy, not too too bad but still cloudy. Blue, not green, no algae.
 
Oh I think I know where I got worried, that it could take the filter up a week to clear it all out. But quick question to slam it, which looks like shocking the pool a whole lot which I almost did last night haha. Went from 1 to 2 ppm to 13, just needed to get it to 20 lmao.

We can see the bottom, FC is 11.5 which is high a bit higher then the maximum and the ph is fine.
 
I would think 7.5 max for my results. Oh i know slam is a constant thing. Ours would be 20 and having it constantly there at that level. I just joked that i almost got us to that 20 which is slaming lol:)

To be honest it's all over whelming st first bc I'm a complete newbie to taking care of a pool. I never had one so i never learned, until now. Its a lot at first and I'm trying to learn everything

SLAM level is max. In other words, this is the maximum level it is safe to bring FC to in order to kill existing algae. Target is the highest you would need to go to prevent algae from forming in the first place. Minimum is where algae can start to grow in a pool. I hope this makes sense, again ask questions PLEASE if anything isn't crystal clear, pun intended.
 
LOL, Okay, I got it now...thank you for clarifying! So you're saying, for my specific pool, with the CYA being at 50, that I should aim to keep my pool around 6 then, to prevent algae from forming. The CYA is at 50 now, but I'm sure it's just b/c I just added stabilizer. I'm guessing I need to keep some stabilizer on hand and test it once a week and add stabilizer as necessary then? And add the chlorine to keep at pace to prevent algae from growing?

My CC was at .5 the other day, I did not test it today. But I will test everything again in the next few days. I know to slam, i need the CC above .5 and to fail the OCLT test correct? The pool is still a tad cloudy, nothing TOO bad. Father in law thinks it's okay, just a little cloudy, nothing to worry about if our numbers are okay. But I want it to be clear. But if it's not harming anyone and it's cloudy, should I be overly concerned? FYI I'm a worry wart...I worry about anything and everything!
