I have been using the TFP methods for 3 years now but first time posting. This year I opened my pool 3 weeks ago and the water was clear with the usual buildup of leaves and gunk over the winter. I vacuumed, brushed, and brought it up to SLAM levels and added salt (Clorox, I later learned about this being an inferior salt after a week of cloudiness and some research on TFP. I added a bottle of purple stuff but it didn't help.). The chlorine has remained at SLAM levels for 3 weeks now and the pool is still cloudy. I have skimmer socks in, DE added to the sand filter and still show no progress. We went on vacation for 5 days during this time and I had my Dad add a gallon of chlorine everyday. He didn't brush however and the pool actually looked better when we got back. Still cloudy but I could almost see the bottom of the deep end. I vacuumed when I got back and could all of the pollen/dirt that had settled blew right through the filter and back through the returns. And now pool is back to cloudy. Normally DE to the sand filter does the trick for clearing the pool up but doesn't seem to work this year. I did a deep clean on the filter and while it was dirty I haven't seen results. I am not experiencing much chlorine loss day to day so I don't think it's algae. SLAMing for a week usually results in a clear pool. Any advice would be appreciated.
