Hazy Pool Water
I have revised my post making it more concise.

Hi everyone. The water in my pool is hazy, it never seems to get sparkly clear. I have been tracking this problem since last year. Required data first.

Tuesday morning's tests:
FC 5
CC 0
CYA 60
Ph 7.5
TA 70
CH 50 (was 40 until torrential downpour last night)
B 30 (6/14 test)
NaCl 3300 (ish)

Added 20 oz bleach bringing FC to 8. Sunny day with bathers.

Tuesday evening’s tests:
FC 6
CC 0

Wednesday morning’s tests:
FC 6
CC 0

Had this problem last year, and added DE. Helped a bit. After reading posts on TFP, I decided to SLAM. As FC came down from SLAM, cloudiness would come back. I then mustard SLAMmed twice. Cleaned everything with bleach, and brushed the pool as well. One SLAM was 5 days. I met the first two parameters (OCLT and CC) after one day but since the water never totally cleared, I continued the SLAM.

CC last year was normally 0, occasionally .5 and once got to 1 (let FC drop a bit low so I SLAMmed premptively).

I kind of gave up in fall, lowered the pool level and closed it for the winter.

In spring, water was crystal clear, with some dirt at the bottom of the pool. Vacuumed, filled, brushed, vacuumed and SLAMmed (FC 23, CYA 50) the pool just to be safe. As the FC came down over 8 days, and the CYA went up (CYA in sock over return) the pool got cloudy again. After 2 weeks of filter running 20 hours a day, the water is still not clear.

This year CC has been at 0.

I have records of all of testing and chemical additions for last year and this year.

Any ideas?

Losing 2 FC during the day with people swimming is normal to low from what I am seeing. I haven't had any issues with cloudy water but have heard some people have had success with adding DE to their sand filter. Between that and 1 micron sock you should be able to filter it out. If not I would guess it is time to SLAM until it is crystal clear. Remember that water at shock level is safe to swim in. CYA/FC chart

You probably need to SLAM. You mentioned that when slamming you test in the evening and in the morning. Try to test more often, like once every hour or two once you get the FC to 24. That's the M part of SLAM, maintain. You need to maintain the FC at shock level.

Last year, when I SLAMmed, I did maintain the levels and tested 6 to 8 times per day. I also raised FC to 34 (CYA 50) for 5 days, with no overnight FC loss after the first day. Went through a lot of bleach and a lot of reagent:D
I spent last year reading a lot of the posts and realized that the biggest problem is folks not following the very clear directions on this web site, so I have worked hard to follow them carefully.
I will SLAM this weekend, test every 2 hours (have a big bottle of 0003 reagent) and let you know what happens.

Thank you very much.

Well it sounds like you have a good handle on everything - sometimes the water will be a bit cloudy after swimming. If you have people swimming everyday the filter probably just needs to catch up. As long as it didn't fall below FC of 5 for an extended amount of time. Best of luck!

I have been doing an OCLT for the past three days. FC loss: 0. CC: 0. So that indicates that I do NOT need to SLAM.
As the FC level drops from SLAM numbers, the pool clouds up.
I have run the filter for 2 weeks with no bathers and it was still cloudy.
I do not think this is a problem with organics in the pool.

Any more ideas?
