So I’ve had major issues with my pool for the last month. Opened it and had to leave town for a week. Major rain washed lots of debris and of course my salt generator hit its 13th year and just went haywire!
So returned home and it was almost black!
Started the shock and balance process, new generator and cell, lots of time and hours, and it’s blue, but super cloudy.
I’m testing with TFP 100-pro.

Free Chlorine 8
pH 7.6

Sorry, just saw the CYA.

Do the diluted test #8 here and report back.

We are going to need to replace water before SLAM. Read up on no drain water exchange.

I did the diluted test and my previous diluted test was correct, or at least that’s what my eyes are saying. So CYA yesterday was 110
I drained about 18 inches from the pool last night. Drained to wasted through the multiport and refilled with two hoses to fill mark in skimmer. CYA only dropped to 100! I tested it three times. Being that I have been using Sam’s club Dichlor for years, I’m sure this is what created the monster I have now.
I was thinking draining nearly 1/4+ of pool water would drop CYA by 25% or so. Looks like I’m only at a 9% drop with a 25% flush of pool water. I didn’t have a submersible pump, so I wasn’t able last night to calculate flow and use the method mentioned of exchanging.
Being that I didn’t exchange, and simply drained and refilled I would have expected a greater reduction.
I feel like I need to drain again in order to reduce CYA.
In addition to reading it as 100 now, my last pool store measurements were 0(June 14) and 45(June 24th - after a 13lb shock slam because it was black)! However when I did the test at home with both the HTH kit I have and the new TFT kit I just got it’s showing me 100 or more with each test.
Outside of the numbers it’s still bright blue and you can’t see past the second step. It’s been filled back to its normal height for the last 12 hours.
I don’t want to try to shock and balance and waste time and money if the reading of 100 is correct and I need to drain/exchange more!
