Hi,

I live in an area where it doesn’t get below 32° very often(southwest Tennessee).

Can I close the pool by just adding chlorine, installing a winter cover, and just run the pump when temperature is below 32°? I shouldn't lose chlorine since there’s no sunlight, swimmers, or algae?

I heard it could be bad for the liner and since chlorine gas has nowhere to go it ends up going back into the water.

Thanks!

You aren't closing your pool, you are keeping it running over winter. You don't need to close you'll just need to keep an eye on the levels. Water temp is key. If your water temp drops below 60 you'll be fine all winter mostly ignoring the pool. But do keep an eye on the temps if it falls below freezing as you suggested. Most pumps have a freeze-protect mode see if your pump has it. Your chlorine will not remain in the water regardless of sunlight. You don't need it if water temps are below 60.
