Chlorine test turns orange

Just opened the pool 3 days ago, and the water was clear - Yay! Currently, FC=16, pH=7.5, TA=70, and CYA=40. But today, when I performed a daily chlorine test, the test turned bright orange! I am using last season's test kit, (waiting for delivery of new set), but the kit has been stored in a climate-controlled environment. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Orange on the block test ? If so, orange is 10+ FC with a similar range as it is for yellow, from light to dark. (Albeit not exact).

OTO turns orange above 10ppm FC and starts to go very dark orange, even brown, at higher FC. The color is consistent with your 16ppm measurement from using the DPD-FAS titration test. OTO is not very accurate and should only be used a test for the presence of chlorine, not to obtain a reliable or accurate number.
