Chlorine and Baking Soda Pucks - in the pump strainer basket?

Forgive me if this is old hat, but is there any reason not to place the pucks in here?

It would seem that it would greatly enhance each, but maybe not.

If there a reason why it's best not to put them in here?

Yes, the high concentration of chlorine will damage the equipment. We are not proponents of continued use of pucks as your primary source of chlorine additions due to the amount of CYA the pucks also add to the pool. If you do want to use them there are special in line chlorinators made for their use.

If the pump is on 24/7, no problem. But pucks are very acidic and if they sit and melt in the basket while the pump is off, you could damage the metal parts and the seal. And any of those parts cost considerably more than a ten dollar floater.
