Chlorinator off test salt levels - but taylor test high

Hi friends,

my swg is posting the message that chlorinator is off test salt levels. Over the last few weeks or month the readings were sort of bonkers because the weather was cold. But this is the first time it completely shut off. I did my own taylor test and got 3800ppm is actually high i believe. The swg was replaced a little less than 2 years ago. Here is a photo of diagnostic reading:



Can other chemical levels affect this? Ph? Cya? I admit i have been lacking in monitoring levels so im trying to see where im at and what i need to add. But otherwise any idea on the swg?

the plug connections on both sides look like they are corroded and in poor condition.

The receptacle plug can be replaced if you have the part number and some soldering skills.

What does the system show for temp?

The first picture shows the cell temp reading.

The second picture shows the water temp sensor, which is a different sensor.

Also, get a water thermometer to verify both readings.

Double check your salinity test procedure and verify salinity two other reliable ways like a calibrated meter.

To test the thermistor test between points 6 and 10 using a multimeter, the resistance should follow a 10k thermistor chart.

Here is a calculator you can use to enter a Temperature and get resistance or enter a resistance and get temperature.

the regular pool temp reading says 69 degrees currently (air temp at 82).
to test using the taylor kit I use the magnetic stir. don't remember the name of the bottles but add 1 drop of the yellow one and 1 drop of the other one until it changes color. then multiply by 200. just as the instructions say.

i'll have to work on getting a water thermometer and look into more ways to verify salinity

It might be a bad cell.

it's a Super Pro generic brand replacement. i'm aware of the recommendation against generics but unfortunately when we replaced the swg two years ago we had some other issues and couldn't afford to spring for the hayward. so i crossed my fingers and hoped for the best!

For now I threw in some regular bleach chlorine. I'm hoping the swg resets itself by tomorrow and kicks on. I'm also wondering if I should add a little bit of salt to get it kicked on but I also don't want to continuously add salt if my taylor reading is high

no change. the instant salt was 1700 but I didn't change this like the video said you could do
