Chlorination while on vacation help

New build and up and running for 1.5 months. I am following the methods posted here but have a pentair chlorinator on my pool and the pool builder filled it with pucks to help get my CYA up and help me with chlorine while I learn the ropes. So my CYA July 15 was 45 and tonight it is 60. We live in Texas and it is blazing hot so I have read a higher CYA is ok. The problem is last week I set the chlorinator to put in max chlorine and left it alone to mimic what it would do if we were to go on vacation. It never was able to keep up. I was constantly having to add bleach to keep up my chlorine levels. Sooooo.....how do I go on vacation and not come home to a green pool?!

Constantly adding chlorine is part of owning a pool, especially in hot and sunny areas. The UV rays gobble up the chlorine and it needs to be replenished frequently.

Regarding vacation? Bring your FC up a good deal (maybe even up to shock level, or close to it) and go enjoy your vacation. Maybe bring your pH down some to the lower end of the range so it isn't too high when you return. Depending on how long your vacation is, maybe have a trusted friend drop by after a few days to dump in a gallon of chlorine. If your CYA isn't too high you could always toss a puck or two into a floater.
