Hi everyone, last year I had a inground pool installed. It's I vinyl lined pool with stadium steps. The shallow end is 3.5' to the deep end at 6'. My pool size is 16× 32.

After a summer with the pool, my wife and I have some issues. The shallow end is too shallow when trying to swim from the deep end we keep hitting our toes on the floor. Also to play any games your stuck in the shallow end and the water only comes up to my waist. To be honest I'd rather not even have a deep end ans shallow end, instead just have a 4.5' water depth everywhere.. or even go from 4.5" to 6 would be ok as well.

Has anyone changed the depth of a liner pool? I'm assuming the vermiculite has to be broken up and redone? And also would require a liner change.

We also would like to address the steps, they are too steep. Each step is 11" with the top one at 14". My wife has some mobility issues and this is very inconvenient, we have been using a plastic step that's about 4" to assist her.

If anyone has dine this I would appreciate any input they could share. Also any idea of cost?

Anything can be done for a price.

Yes you would have to break up the bottom at least in the shallow end to make it deeper. Then you will need to add fill (dirt, gravel, sand) to bring the deep end up. It will need to be added 12" at a time and compacted VERY well each time as you do not want it to settle.

Then the bottom redone with vermiculite.

Now on to the steps. You can have the steps made out of blocks to fit your needs. They will need to cover the blocks to protect the liner from the roughness of the blocks especially the corners.

New liner-This will be the scariest part as the measurement will have to be spot on. You may have a hard time with someone with that skill set in your area. I would start calling around to the installers in your area to see if there is anyone that can/will guarantee their measurements.

Price-It really depends on your area. While a person here in Florida might find someone to do it for $xx money someone else in TX might find it for $yy price.

I wish you luck and hope you let us know what you find out even if you decide to not do it.

I'm pretty sure you'd need to dig out a hopper in the shallow end, similar to the deep end for wall support. You can't just dig down straight with the walls.

I'm with you and hate my shallow end. It's too deep to sit but too deep to comfortably kneel. Games are akward because too much of me is out of the water when standing. I would have gone all deep end with grown kids but the Mrs insisted on the traditional shallow end and I was already way over budget to customize it further. I did shorten it to only 12 ft so there is that.

I should have researched more before building...I can't really even play games in my pool I can't stand in the deep end and the shallow is too shallow this leaves a small area from the shallow to the deep end but it's on an incline
