Can't shake this green cloudy pool - new pool owner

Outside of getting my test kit (apparently harder in Canada, can't find the recommended ones), what can I do next?

If CYA Is a Non-factor for me, what can I do to raise my bromine level so it can kill algae? I must admit, it has gotten a little lighter shade of green over he past 2 days. I shocked it yesterday and today.

Also will note that it is pretty cloudy, can't see to the bottom of the shallow end.

I suspect a complete drain and refill is in your future.

If going forward as a bromine pool to see how it works I guess you can try putting aprox 10 ppm chlorine in your pool each evening as the sun stops shining on the water. This should allow the chlorine to do the job working on algae each night. Keep in mind when the sun returns on your pool each day it will deplete your chlorine back to zero allowing algae and other contaminants to return.

Fighting it this way will probably cost a lot, require several weeks, and may not work. Maybe someone else has a solution?

re: test kit, I ended up ordering from here. More expensive than in the US but good service at least :

After reading up on outdoor bromine pools a bit I'm having a tough time believing it's worth staying with bromine. Seems pretty clear that a bromine pool can be more pleasant than a "typically maintained" chlorine pool but a "well maintained" chlorine pool doesn't have those problems.

Thanks bridgman.

I'm on the verge of dumping in 25L of liquid chlorine tonight to see if it will help until I get the kit. I dumped in 10L last night, and used powder shock a couple of days ago. It has lightened up a bit, and is kind of a greenish blue now, so maybe I'm making blind progress. Bromine level is still low, around 1.5 PPM.

I'm under some serious pressure here from the boss (wife).
