Cant keep chlorine level up

Can't keep chlorine level up. Testing everyday but it's either 0.5 or no chlorine at all. I am using clorox bleach. What should I do?

Are you saying that you tested it at 0.5 ppm FC and then dosed it to 3 and it dropped to zero overnight? Or that you tested it at 0.5 ppm FC and left it be despite being so low?

Sorry...it closed at 0.5. I added bleach to bring it to 3. Then this morning my chlorine was 0 and CYA dropped from 30

Then you have an organics problem and possibly something else brewing in the unchlorinated water if your CYA is starting to slip.

Sounds like the SLAM Process is the correct course for your water.

That's what I thought...now I watched the slam video and basically I am adding liquid chlorine until levels reach what I want?

Yup. Then you'll maintain that SLAM target as often as needed. It typically needs dosing every 2 to 3 hours at first but within a day it starts holding 6+ hours between tests and by day 3, it's holding all day.

Brush as vac daily, at least once.

Clean the filter at 25% psi increase.

Scour every hidden inch like ladder rails, light niches, autofills, or anywhere else it could be hiding in plain sight. Every inch is suspect until proven otherwise.

So SLAM and continue to test all levels. Then when my levels reach what I want I can stop slamming?

Adjust the ph to 7.2. Then bring to 12 FC for 30 CYA. Test only FC until the water is clear / no visible algae whatsoever.

Then continue until you pass Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, with .5 ccs or less.

Should I keep my pool cover off when I SLAM or does it matter

Think I got it...just to make sure. SLAM and check FC level. When FC level is 12. Then I am good?

Then you're good to start. It's a process to keep the FC at 12, especially at first. If it holds well from the beginning, GREAT. If it's losing 3ppm every 2 hours, step in and make it 12 again.

Make sure that Clorox bleach doesn’t have anything like “chloromax”, special enzymes, scents, or anything other than plain bleach. You may be able to find a better $ deal at Walmart using their chlorinating liquid.

I am on day 3 of my SLAM process...my water is crystal clear but I can't pass the overnight test and throughout the day my levels of chlorone will drop from 18ppm to 5ppm within a few hours. Am I doing something wrong. Using liquid chlorine.
