Can’t get any free chlorine reading

Oh thanks! My husband is going to take the top off and see if it comes off that way! I’ll let you know, thanks for the info! 😊🎉
We got the gauge out, it was pretty simple just screwed in under the top so we bought a replacement piece. Thanks for everyone’s help figuring that out! 💜

I’m just wondering when does everybody close their pool for the year? I know I should get a pool thermometer because i have read when the water is 60°, does everyone just go by the temperature of the water? And as far as a leaf net since I have a 21 foot round pool, It’s a 24 foot leaf net big enough? And that goes over the cover after it’s closed for the winter and then I take it off before it freezes correct?
Thanks 💜

Here is a good thread: Leaf Net It has a good set of pictures and experiences.

You will likely want it to hang over the edge 2-3 feet (x2 sides) so you likely want a 25-27'.
So I’m just wondering what my ideal CYA level should be; pool math says anywhere from 30 to 60 and right now I am 25 should I just go right in the middle 45?

The general consensus is that 40-50 will give you the best protection. At 60 and above may take more chlorine to keep it sanitized, and will make slam harder if you happen to get ALGAE.

I keep 60, because I lose about 10ppm/month, and have a bigger pool.

Really personal preference.
