Can my new liner cover old pool light?

So we just got a new liner installed. Guys are coming back to cut out for jets and pool light. But, my husband just pointed out we don’t use the light and don’t really want it to be replaced (it would be expensive.) The hole where the light normally goes has been taped up but certainly not properly sealed with epoxy or anything as the installers assumed the light was going to go back. If we leave it as it with just something like tape covering the hole and the new liner fitting tightly over where the light was, will that be good enough? Do we need to worry that water can get through? Do we need to worry about something creating a hole there and then causing even more damage? Can we just leave it as it is? The light was beneath the diving board. Not sure if you can zoom in to see how they covered it. And that’s the light-old.

Welcome to TFP! I would be concerned about someone kicking by accident and tearing that spot open. They do sell aftermarket niche covers like the one HERE. I would ideally do something to support that area from puncture before covering with the liner. Shoot, maybe just install the old light and cover it?
