Can I replace single speed Hayward pump with Pentair intelliFlo 3 VSF and make it work with the existing Aqualogic borad

It is time to replace the pool pump and filter. Both by Hayward. I saw the Pentair intelliFlo 3 and clear and clean 150 filter at the local pool supply. Can this pump work with the Aqulogic communication Borad. Can the aqua logic Borad be configured to control the pump smoothly or I will have errors and problems.

Thank you for all your help.

Welcome to the forum!

You will have to use relays to change the speeds of the Intelliflo but you will not be able to program the pump via the AquaLogic controller.

I have AquaLogic board and I am using a Hayward MaxFlo VS pump and that pump, as well as any Hayward pump, can be programmed with that controller as long as the software version is 2.65 or above.

Hayward makes perfectly fine VS pumps. Why not go with one of those instead?

Also, if you are interested in a smart phone app or home automation with that controller:

Hi Mark, thank you for your reply. The local pool store is recommending TriStar 950 Hayward vs pump. How is that compared to the Hayward MaxFlo VS pump. I read that Pentair has better customer service and more innovative and less problematic. That is why I am leaning to the Pentair pump.
How can I tell what software version I have now with the AquoLogic I have. My Heater is not working ( haven’t turned it on in years) it may or may not work. I don’t know. My Goldline Salt cell stopped working in years and currently using chlorine tablet in the pool. My priority now is to update the pump and change the filtration because the Hayward screwed from the top filter is stripped and last time I washed the filter, the lid exploded in mid air and came down on the equipment full force and broke some of the pvc pluming. I am afraid to open the filter tank to wash the filter.

The TriStar is a larger pump so you will be able to run on lower speeds for the same flow rate which will reduce noise.

Most of the issues for Hayward pumps have been with the EcoStar line but those have been discontinued. From what I have seen on the forum is that both the Intelliflo and the TriStar are solid pumps but neither is immune to defects and/or failures.

Go to the diagnostic menu and click the left arrow five times. You will see in the display "Main Software Revision #.##".

There are ways to repair the board depending on what went wrong. Typically, the issue is with the solder joint under the K1 relay.

Long term use of the tablets is not a good idea.

What model filter is that?

Tablets add cyanuric acid to the water which buffers the FC from UV extinction which is a good thing. However, too much can reduce the effectiveness of CL and you can then run into algae problems. In many cases, pools that use tablets end up having way too much CYA in their pools and CL is basically ineffective.

You can read why we do not recommend tablets here:

v2.93 will support any Hayward VS pump via a RS485 data cable. You will be able to program two speeds, high and low, for the timers and group settings. Technically, you could tell the controller you have a spa and get another two speeds for programming if needed but I only need two speeds. My pump runs at 45% speed, aka low speed, most of the time. High speed, is only used for pump and solar priming and the occasional quick clean.
