Can I pour bleach directly into my hot tub?

It spills over into my pool. Last weekend we had a party and had about 15 people in there (lots of kids). Yesterday we sat in it in the evening but forgot to put the pool back on pool mode.

I need to get the chlorine way up in there. It was at 1 ppm this morning.

Is it okay to add chlorine directly to the hot tub? I added a little bit in there and let it run with the jets on. Hope this is okay?

I have been looking but I don’t see the proper way to shock just a hot tub (that spills over into pool) after heavy usage. Any advice?

As long as the main pool is above in the range it needs to be. Or you can add chlorine/bleach to the spa. Does the spa share filter with pool? It will all mix there anyways if it does. Or is it on a separate system?

I add a splash of liquid chlorine to my spa after a heavy bather load. I leave the pump on (as if it had people in it) for a bit to swirl it around.

Don't add too much or you may damage your heater coils over time (assuming the highly chlorinated liquid sits inside your heater for too long).. Conversely, you could add a big splash of liquid chlorine and swirl it with whatever is handy (broom, skimmer, etc) and let it run into the pool the next day.

Yes, a splash is a technical term...NOT! :)
