Can ascorbic acid's efficacy be "delayed"?

Been fighting with the brown, metal stain for a few years and obviously sequestrants work (I found GLB to be the best) - no well water but I know our city water contains some metal / iron as our toilet's get stained.

What I found interesting (and experienced for the first time) is that ascorbic acid seemed to "work again" after a few days of the application:

1. Day 0 - as usual, about a 1-2lb of ascorbic acid which eliminated the brown, metal stain immediately
2. A few hours later, I dumped the initial dose (1 full bottle of the 2lb Super Sequa-sol)
3. Day 4 - light brown stain around the steps (plastic) but not around the skimmer, light housing, etc
4. Day 5 - a few scoops of ascorbic acid around the steps and a bit of Jack's Purple - all cleared again
5. Day 8 - a bit of brown stain came back - was planning to put in "some" ascorbic acid then a maintenance dose of GLB
6. Day 9 - however, this morning, all stains are gone

This is good but I never found ascorbic acid "kicking in" after a few days of my application. (I also have the Culator 4.0 running in the pump basket).

Any insights, experience would be greatly appreciated.

Water chemistry sometimes does not do what you expect when mixing chemicals.
