I have been paying $50 on Amazon for 25 lb calcium chloride for pools. But there must be a cheaper alternative. I read some people using calcium chloride (not sodium) snow melt like this one (Safe Step 7300 Calcium Chloride Pellet Ice Melt 50 lb - Ace Hardware). Is it use calcium chloride for snow melt or from local masonry store? Much cheaper. Newly refinished pool with Diamond Brite and I dont want to mess it up. Pool seems to be leaking so I am going through extra calcium to maintain level. Once initial start up is done, I will try to detect source of leak (I speculate it the lights, where the conduit has a known issue from prior experience).

Check the SDS sheets. If it’s pretty much all Calcium Chloride (and perhaps some Sodium Chloride) you should be fine to use it.
