Calcium Hardness Increase is hot stuff

When I add granular, store bought, chemicals, I use the skimmer sock method to make sure they dissolve. So I put the chemicals is the sock and then dunk the sock and walk it along pool. If it's a chemical (like stabilizer) that dissolves extremely slowly, I put the sock in the skimmer and let is dissolve there.

Anyway, am I crazy or when calcium increaser touches the water there is a reaction and the chemical gets extremely hot?
Because, mine got super hot.

Calcium products should be spread across the surface of the deep end of the pool. Do not mix calcium in a small bucket of water. Calcium is exothermic and will generate heat when mixed with water to where it can cause burns or fires.

Check out the ice melt at the store here in a couple months. You'll see calcium chloride on the ingredients list of many of them for this very reason.
