cal shock for slam

some black stuff on bottom I am assuming dead algae
pool is clear I added pics
Do i just vacuum this or vacuum to waste. I am a little confused
Either way. You need to deep clean the filter after so you'll be getting it out one way or the other.
also I have 2 deck jets. Do I let the chlorine run theough them when it is high slamm chlorine?
Any water features need to be flushed twice a day for 15 mins. Go on a algae treasure hunt looking for anywhere it can hide in plain sight. Someone found their autofill a gunked up last year after many failed OCLTs. They probably stepped over it 200 times but it didn't cross their mind. Take a step back and study where it could be hiding. Then scrub/flush anywhere you spot.

Thanks. We just had everything replaced in the filter before opening. New glass, pipes connecting etc

They need to wait right?
Nope. Swimming is safe from min to slam for your CYA level, and slam is actually less harsh than tap water.

In the event the pool is ever cloudy again, you also need to be able to see the bottom well enough to rescue a disabled swimmer. You're clear now so no issues there.

Toss them in. :)

Thanks, I guess I was worried about chlorine being too high. or PH since the test isn’t reliable

assuming tomorrow I’m going to go and I’m done with my slam, then I have to work on getting my water totally balanced what’s the first step? I did read the slam steps, but I just wanna make sure.
I know I have to let the chlorine drop then do I do the pH?
And I’m going to buy stabilizer and I am not putting it in yet, but I know I’m gonna need it to raise it once I’m good.

Yup. Keep Ph in the high 7s and the TA will settle itself where it wants to be.

If the gas heater is still dead, you don't need calcium. Manufacturers recommend 200 CH if you replace it.

Add CYA only after an OCLT pass with flying colors. Each 10 CYA raises your SLAM FC by 4, so if you missed any the next SLAM will be more expensive.

OK yesterday I finally got my pool levels perfect. No visible signs of algae so I was just adding a little chlorine to keep it high to slam level and I added two bags of salt because I needed it and I wanted to turn the chlorinator back on.

I finally shut my filter off last night And we had a horrible rain storm that poured leaves and dirt in my pool.😭 I vacuumed it tested and everything is fine. The pool still clear. it has been in the 90s here.
This morning
Fc 10.5 added 1 quart 12.5 percent chlorine in blue jug

Just tested now
FC 7.5
CC 0
TA 90
PH 7.6
Ch 190
CYA 70
during the entire slam for a week, the CYA was 40. The only thing I added was salt and the chlorine the salt says pure salt.
CYA 70 I just tested CYA level 3 times!
it was the bottom of this jug of chlorine that I added today and that’s salt yesterday.
why would my CYA suddenly jump? I am baffled

There's 2 choices. You added it, and tester error (last time or this time). With what you added, you didn't add it.

Did both CYA tests have overhead sun ? It makes a difference in how well you can see the dot.

all week I did it outside with overhead sun.
Today I did it both ways and got the 70.
going to check again in the morning
is it better to do it with overhead sun?

Yes. Shade the vial with your body (back to sun) but the ambient light makes a big difference on a sunny day.

Then it's just a super quick glance. Don't stare or you'll see it one way or the other. Fill to a 10 line, look away, look back, then BOOM yes or no.

You can pour back and forth until you get a few that agree.

Thanks, I’ll try it in the morning.
