Buying a used AGP

Ohhhhhh... Clicked on the TA in the poolcalculator, and it gave me a WHOLE other page to read!! All this time, and I never clicked on any of those... LOL!

I need to bring that down, eh? haha Ok, lower to 7.0 and then aerate... I can do that! Probably gonna take a while to get it down huh? I should probably worry about the rust first though...

Ok, after the second gallon of 12.5% FC is 10.5 and CC is 0. So I'm guessing the actual chlorine in the bottles dropped a little bit, and the first bottle I put in there did what it does best! Kill the nasty stuff...

On a side note: The backswimmers found the pool! They're out in force today!

Yeah, I know... I'm rambling here... But it gives me a place to come back to see what I was thinking/calculating so I don't have to think and calculate all over again!

1 gallon of 15.7% muriatic acid will lower my ph to 7.0ish and lower my TA 24 ta thingys (ppm?), so I should probably get... calculating... wait for it, wait for it... 14 gallons of muriatic acid!!! SHEESH!!! This is going to take a couple years to get my TA down, huh?

This morning I went on leak patrol! The skimmer was leaking where the widemouth connected to the not wide mouth. Stupid engineering for end user if you ask me. Smart engineering for the manufacturer. So a little bit of JB Putty Weld, and it's as good as new! Wait... It is new! I'll never be taking that apart anyway...

I'm going to have to get a new fitting for the valve for the hose connection, it's leaking ever so slightly, and the PVC is 'crunchy', not 'soft' like it should be...

Readings were FC 9, CC still 0, PH 7.8

The all knowing calculator said to add 100 oz of acid with a TA of 420 to bring the PH down to 7.2, so that's what I did.

The water is less wonky in color, I can now see all the dirt on the floor, but it still has a slight tinge of wonky to it!

We're going to adjust the liner today. There's some wrinkles in the upper part of the walls. It was totally not easy putting the liner in, having a freak rainstorm, and then draining and putting the liner in again! UGGH.

So, I guess I'll vacuum today, and fish that screw out I dropped in yesterday. :hammer:

I've given up on the whole vacuuming thing... I fill the hose with water from the return, remove the basket from the skimmer, put the plate thingy in, and I lose the prime on the pump... I see the pump I ordered and then they cancelled the order because they couldn't get it was self priming. This piece of Crud I have, not so much. I see it's still on their website for sale though... Nice place, huh? Since the money is actually back, I'll reveal that it is

WWW.SWIMMINGPOOLSETC.COM I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN!

There, that's off my chest...

I guess I'm going to have to get my suit on and jump in to get that screw I dropped... Oh the horror!

Ok, the water is pretty much wonkyless now, a little more to go before it's crystal clear though. You can see the couple of bumps in the liner that we'll be pulling out later today, then I'll put the top rail caps on. I still have to jump in and get that screw too..

Kias - retest that TA and wipe the tip of the R-0009 dropper bottle with a damp cloth - in between each drop - to eliminate static electricity that could be causing the result to read higher than it really is.

I did do that... I actually followed directions. :(

You shouldn't be removing the basket from the skimmer, the plate should go right over the basket.

Seems I lost an entire post...

That makes complete sense since you're vacuuming, huh? The first two times I tried putting the plate in, the basket was in there.. Then I took it out and tried a few more times that way. Seems it's too easy to lose the prime on this pump. If I lift the weir flap up for even a second, loses prime. If I toss a sock full of CYA in the basket, loses prime. (I have it hanging in front of the skimmer now.) If I shut the pump off, it doesn't lose it's prime, but the basket starts floating and of course when the pump comes back on, the basket doesn't seat properly. I thought maybe there'd be a lock to hold it down, but there's not. Gonna have to weigh it down I guess.

The O Ring on the pump basket lid is stretched out, and of course all the stores are closed today. It's a pain to get that o ring in and seated properly while closing the lid... You'd think they'd put a valve or something on the lid to let the air out and the water in.

Oh well...

This is what all the work is about

Now this story is anywhere but near the end. It's just getting started, as we all know what's coming next!

With an above ground pool even if your pump loses prime it should reprime itself almost immediately. But you're saying that it doesn't if I'm reading it right. It's sounding like a pump issue. Can you take a pic of the equipment setup or point me to a pic of it and let me see if I see anything that seems out of whack.

Yes, that's correct. It loses it's prime if even a slight air bubble enters and doesn't reprime. Other than that, it pumps like crazy!

The rope around the skimmer is holding the sock of CYA, since I can't put it in the skimmer or it loses it's prime...

Ok, I found a parts breakdown, and after looking at it for a bit, I ordered a new o-ring for the lid, a housing gasket, and a new impeller. I don't actually know if I need the impeller, but I have a funny feeling about it in my gut. If not, I'll have a spare. It doesn't appear I'll need to take the housing off the motor, so I didn't order a new shaft seal... Hopefully that's the case.

I ordered from poolgeek.com, the tfp discount code has expired, but that's ok since 5% off of almost nothing would be next to nothing anyway... But hopefully shipping will be quick since they're just up in Michigan.

Today the water looks exactly like a TFP should look. Crystal Sparkly Clear! However, I have an issue with the dirt on the floor... Can't Vacuum. Pump parts are suppose to ship on Thursday due to a backorder. I may not make it! Half tempted to go scuba diving with a small hand broom and dustpan...

Do you see that dirt on the floor? Do ya? It's driving me crazy!

That's a sure sign of the dreaded sparklypoolitis! You have a bad case of it too. Jump on in there with a broom and dust pan. Or go to the local Wally World and pick up a pool broom and take care of it. You know you're not going to rest till it's gone!
