Can someone identify these white spots on my pool ladder? I have an above ground Bestway 14 x 8 with a 2200 gph sand filter (Bestway Flowclear brand). Is it algae? How should I get rid of it and can I coat the ladder with something to prevent it?

If your ladder is aluminum, that could be pitting corrosion. That's typical of aluminum, especially in a salt air/water environment. This article has a good image for comparison, along with a few ideas about prevention (I just googled this, so buyer beware).

If you can wipe or otherwise scrub it off, then it's probably not pitting, because pitting eats into the aluminum, it's not a stain.

here are the results from my test strip. I actually have a pool person come weekly to maintain the chemicals. I guess I should just talk to him?
Ok, well....here's the thing... "Guess-Strips" aren't that accurate, and even when some elememets are they don't give specific numeral results (rather than a "range").
For example, if your CYA is 50ppm we know that your FC level should never be less than 4ppm, and to be safe keeping it between 6-8ppm allows for the daily loss to the sun yet the pool's FC will still remain higher than that basement level of 4ppm.
Test strips don't give that specific of a reading.
If you''re determined to keep using a pool service you can either monitor your chemistry yourself after they leave, to be assured they're doing right by you....or you can do it yourself. It really is quite easy once you know what you're doing and why.
Maintaining your chemistry properly goes a long way to protecting your pool surface and equipment, as well as assuring a pleasant swimming experience.
I can't comment on the results of your strips. A good test kit would be an investment in your pool, and saves you money by not using the wrong chemicals or a pool service that isn't doing you any favors.

Maddie's asking you to fill in your signature with all your pool's spec's and equipment (similar to mine), along with providing her the results from a suite of pool water test results from an accurate source. She also asked you a couple of specific questions, so that she can analyze all that to help determine what's going on in your pool, and on your ladder (How do you sanitize your pool? What chems have you added?). She can't really help you with "the white stuff" until she has more facts. She was explaining why test strip results aren't what she needs. And she can't really use just any ol' test results. She needs the results from a full set of tests performed with one of the only two test kits we recommend for proper pool care. She specifically is recommending the TF-100 test kit, which you can buy here: www.tftestkits.net.
And just to be clear, you wouldn't be investing in that kit to solve just this problem, but you'd continue to use it to better take care of your pool, whether you continue to use a pool service, or eventually decide to take care of your pool yourself. So it would be money well spent, for this particular issue, and for the future of your pool.
