Help! We’ve been at this for over a week and struggling to get rid of this brown stuff at the bottom. Any suggestions?

The test strips are called HTH 6 way test strips, it’s possible I could be reading the results wrong?
I doubt it's you. Test strips are very poor and unreliable. I don't suppose in your location you have access to any drop test kits? The kind with reagent bottles? Here in the states we recommend the TF-100 or TF-Pro Series kits (link in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C. Not sure you can get those mailed there?

Is there anything in particular that causes the brown cloudiness?
If that stuff brushes-up into a cloud when moved around, it might just be algae. If it's more of a stain it could be iron. I can't quite tell from the pic. It looks cloudy/fluffy to me though.

It brushes up into a cloud!
Okay, well that's better than iron. So that means you probably have algae in there which would require you to perform the SLAM Process, but you can't do that with test strips. The test kit will help solve your chemistry problems. For now, I would simply add some liquid chlorine to the water each day. How many gallons is your pool? The profile just says "1". Ha.

So based on your pool size, a half gallon of 10% strength chlorine is about 5 ppm for your pool. I would just add that once each day for now until you can get one of those test kits. I would like to be more specific, but without the right test kit and knowing your true CYA there's no way to tell. I'm guessing you must have "some" CYA level in there because you've used those bags of shock in the past, but the test strips are just horrible.

So for now, add that liquid chlorine each day and brush things around until you get a kit then we can really get much more detailed about what to do next.
