We have an in-line chlorinator for Trichlor tabs to be used for when we go on vacation and cannot add bleach to the pool. For whatever reason the chlorinator doesn't seem to dissolve the trichlor and our pool builder says it is because the 3 inch tabs don't allow a lot of water circulation around them and they therefore do not dissolve well. He is suggesting that we put 1" bromine tablets into the chlorinator. What do I need to know about bromine tabs in terms of what numbers on my pool chemistry it is going to affect?

Your pool builder is showing his ignorance on pool chemistry. Chlorine and bromine are dissimilar systems and can’t be mixed.

If you put bromine tabs in your pool, you have a bromine pool untill a total water exchange or the bromine gets oxidizes completely from clorine, which is about as fast as clorine oxidizing cya.

Sounds like your inline chlorinator is not functioning properly and needs to be repaired. If the chlorinator is designed for 3” tablets, then water flow should be accounted for in the design. It could be that the smaller water lines are plugged up with something.
Was only 99% trichlor pucks used on the chlorinator? No multipurpose tablets or anything else?

I am pretty sure....I had never heard of bromine tabs so I swear that's what he said. Do they make 1" chlorine tabs? If so, I will just use those!!
cloggrd lines are a definite possibility-we have leaves and pollen strands galore from oak trees....a lot of debris makes it into our filter baskets.

Yes, 1” trichlor tabs exist. I have an old bucket of them from Leslie’s. They are sometimes sold for use in hot tubs or small volume tab floaters.
The tablet feeder should be downstream of your cartridge filter. It "should" be the last piece of equipment before the water goes back to the pool. It's highly likely not leaves or pollen since those should be captured by the filter. Maybe calcium buildup or some other material. The feeder is made to use the 3" tabs. If you put in 1" chlorine tabs, it won't fix your issues, maybe just hide them for a little while. Which model tablet feeder are you using?
Thw tablet feeder is a a Pentair Rainbow model 300-29X and is connected after our overflow pump to the pool return line. Our pool is less than 1 year old and calcium hardness has always been less than 350

It's possible to get clogs because the input water comes from the discharge side of the pump before the filter and the chlorinated water gets injected after the filter (and heater). If you have a check valve on the chlorinating tube line, you should inspect that as the those check valves can become clogged or damaged over time. Also, you should inspect all parts of the input water line including the chlorine control valve as that may have become clogged or restricted.
