There is no danger to kids with borates. There are no issues with borates up to 80 ppm.

If your pH is still rising on a weekly basis then you might want your TA down closer to 60 before adding borates.

How do you mean? My PH has ALWAYS risen over time , I thought it was normal with SWG. I add about 16oz of MA every 2 weeks. Is that wrong? thx
What is the best way of lowering TA? and after adding boric acid , should I raise the TA back to 80 again as it is the recommended level?

Also , how long should I wait after adding the BA , before letting kids swim ? thx

Recommended TA for a saltwater pool is 60-80. Most do better at the lower number. Ph will rise slower with lower TA. Just don't go below 50, then there isn't enough buffering and pH can become erratic. We don't generally recommend chasing a TA number. As you add acid to lower pH your TA will also lower and as TA lowers pH rise will slow and you will add less acid. Except when adding borates. Borates also buffer pH making it harder to raise or lower pH so it is easier to lower TA where you want it before adding borates. Here's how, Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity

Kids can swim as soon as the boric acid is dissolved.
