I know from reading the last couple of days the basics of what I need to do to get my pool clear, depends on good testing. I ordered the pro kit today. Im not sure how long it takes to ship. In the mean time, I have some questions. A little history first.
We have had an above ground pool for 8 years. I had trouble one season with getting it clear. The rest of the years it was tabs, shock and vacuum and a clear pool all summer with an occasional flair up of cloudy water when I got lazy. We live in the country, surrounded by farm fields and dirt roads. That year I had trouble, we had a wind storm and filled the pool with corn shucks from fall harvest. After I got most of the debris out, it took lots of shock and ultimately floc to clear it up. This year is similar. The pool cover blew off and was torn in a 70-80 mph wind storm. Pool set uncovered for the last 6 weeks. It's under a maple tree. The spinners/seeds from the tree filled the bottom of the pool. There were 1000's in it. Almost couldn't see the floor. The water was clear though. As soon as I disturbed them, it got cloudy and in a couple days, blue green. I have been fighting it for over 2 weeks. Got it to where I could see the bottom a little, and bam, back to green again when I tried netting everything out. It's been that way for a week. I have put 12 bags of shock in and a couple of gallons of liquid chlorine. I have blindly netted the pool and have most of what I can out. The only tests I have are the test strips from Hach. I know test strips aren't reliable from reading this site. But it's what I have while waiting. Here is what it says today.
Total Hardness 250
Total Chlorine 10
Free chlorine 20
PH around 7.2
Total alkalinity 80
Cyanuric acid 0
I have had a floater full of tabs in for 3-4 weeks. Put 2 gallons of shock last night and 2 this morning. Could see a couple of feet until I disturbed bottom again. I have added 2 dissolving bags of stabilizer today and no effect on the Cyanuric level. I worry about adding more in case the test strips are bad.
I have 6 kids and 5 grand kids coming in 2 weeks, over memorial weekend and my wife is on my butt!
Any advice while I wait for kit? I also have a robot that typically does well, but there has been so much stuff in the pool it gets full quickly.
I appologize for the lengthy post. I appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks!
