Hi all,

I’ve got cal hypo granules (Blue Horizon) that doesn’t dilute well with water. I stir and stir and stir but hardly any dilute. The product says max 100g to 10l of water and I’ve never done more than this.

So I went out and bought a cheap blender/food processor and now I blend the granules without water. Some sit beneath the blade so then I add water and blend before finally adding it to the 10l of water then mix and pour into the pool.

My q is can I just blend without water the whole tub so I don’t have to do it each time?

Also to save weighing each time can I store them in batches?

I know liquid chlorine is the best way but I want to finish these granules first.

We would not recommend that you blend them, dry or wet. Cal-hypo causes severe skin burns and serious eye damage, and cause respiratory irritation. Blending it just makes the potential for burns and damage that much higher, especially for eyes and lungs when you make dust.

The other risk is fire. Blenders make heat, the potential for fire, though may be low is still there.

I would advise using higher temperature water and add less cal-hypo. You may be exceeding the saturation rate with a small amount of water and a large amount of cal-hypo.
