Good afternoon,

I have been meaning to post about the brown abrasion found in a couple of spots around the vertical parts of my pool steps, and then today, I also noticed a new black dot in a plaster divot. At first, rubbing it caused it to break down into the water but eventually, even with a puck, it stopped doing that and just stayed black. I assume algae but I wanted to see if there is anything else it could be (like a sign of a plaster issue, I have no idea when the pool was last replastered).

Picture 1: Close up, Picture 2, a fragment of the puck for comparison, the spot is maybe fingernail-sized. Picture 3-4 the brown abrasions

The black thing is a minor issue compared to the plaster worn down to the gunite shell on those steps. Thats an issue that needs to be corrected.
