Hi all,

Does this look like black algae? It started on the SW end of the bottom of the pool after leaving the water on too long and the red sand mucked up the water. 1st time this has happened even though water has been sandy before. Can only run well for 20 min. at a time and then let stand for 45 min to keep clear. Had to wait for the sand to filter/settle out while keeping chlorine up, but after vacuuming this was under the sand mostly on the SW end of the pool. Seems to be spreading pretty quickly though. It will not budge with a nylon brush but will scrape off with a fingernail. I've got a pressure washer and backpack sprayer. CYA is at 20, PH is 7.5 & FC is 3. We're into 100-degree days so the water is warm....Les

Scratch some of with a fingernail and smear on a paper towel. Black algae is a type of bacteria like black mold that will be dark green to blue or black when wiped on a paper towel.

If it does not smear, might be a stain...
