There are two certainties in life - death & taxes .... and, with the advent of advanced medical technologies, death is becoming less and less certain.

So today was tax prep day because...well....I've run out of excuses not to do them. So, with the kids duly occupied by playdates and/or screen time, daddy set off to wrestle with the tax man. Here is the line-up of drinks by the end of the day -

gE5LRhJuSOupkbX+NJEbww.jpg

Morning - nice strong cup of coffee to get the job started....woohoo, i'm going to DO THIS!!

Afternoon - Caffeinated soda needed to ward off cross-eyes developing as I have now just spent several hours reading various IRS Publications written in some form of arcane English dialect...Advil was consumed as well to treat the headache....must....keep.....going....

Beer...very STRONG beer (8.5% ABV) - After completing taxes and looking at the misery of numbers before me, only a good strong beer will be able to reduce the despair felt as I fork over even larger sums of money to the tax-man....

Anybody know which state pays the most for blood bank deposits and/or vital organ transplants??

:pale:

That's a good Trippel!

Hey, if you clean off the desk then the dust settles on it and you have to clean it. If the papers are all over, no dusting necessary. Saves me several cans of Pledge per year ;)

Well, we actually do have a CPA that handles the business side of things and she’s told me that my Ninja-like TurboTax skills are just as good as anything she’d do (she doesn’t like to do personal income taxes, corporate and small business is her thing) and it saves her having to charge me hundreds of dollars per form. The nice part is, she’s a friend and will answer any question I throw at her either by email or text. So while I have to suffer the indigestion and heartburn of doing the taxes, it’s nice to have a pro back-stopping me if I run into trouble. I used many favors from her this season....paybacks will be made with smoked meats and jerky.

Now if I can only find that line for itemizing food supply expenses and bartering transactions.....

An IRS agent might see the picture and think that you have a lot of money.

Everything should convey a sense of extreme poverty.

Drinks should be water from a garden hose in a makeshift container, like a discarded metal can or an old mayonnaise jar.

If you show anything other than water, it should be low quality generic soda.

The 8 ounce solid gold paperweight on the desk is just asking for trouble.

And the paperwork in the background showing the logo from a bank in the Cayman islands should probably be edited out of the picture.

I spend about $225 per year and about 25 minutes with the CPA. He even sends off my forms electronically and I get my returns about mid February every year. He's good at his job and I'm good at mine. No need to spend a day frustrated when I can relax with a beer in front of the pool. My desk is covered in crud though...

Already got my taxes done and I am drinking all the way to the bank:cheers: BTW my office is looking just like yours and the wife is always behind to clean it up:p

I totally understand having an accountant do it and we did do that for many years. But what I realized is that I get more ticked-off when I’m handed forms to sign and given a bill for $300+ as well as writing a large check to both Uncle Sam and Auntie State. It’s far easier for me to write those checks when I’ve done the work myself and I understand all the tax work. If I had to do it the old school way like my dad did when I was growing up (paper, pencil, calculator, mail in) I’d just use an accountant. TurboTax is so sophisticated nowadays that it catches almost every conceivable tax situation. Between the cost of the software and the fee charged for e-filing state forms (Fed is free), I spend about $100 on tax prep every year. And, as our business accountant told us, the value add for personal income tax prep is merely shifting the work to someone else, TurboTax does just as good a job as any associate accountant will in a tax prep office. So for me, my OCD is satisfied and I know things were done right.

It’s just a big mental hurdle to get over every Feb/Mar...and the beer expense in the family budget spikes up that month...

I got a 12 pack with your name on it if you'll come do mine........

I do my parents taxes every year as well. They purchase TurboTax and load it on their laptop, hand me the laptop and their file folder of tax papers (my mom is super-organized) and throw a Dunkin Donuts gift card on top. They get their taxes done and e-filed and I get a week’s worth of coffee and sugary donut treats :D

Beer works too!

Since Turbotax will import all my stock stuff.........I no longer need a CPA who got too rich for my blood.

Yes, TurboTax is amazing and if you link it up with Quicken and use Quicken to track your finances, the software can practically import every bit of data without needing the user to type it in. When I was a working-stiff, my employer started doing the electronic W-2’s and that was super-awesome. TT is very easy to use especially if your tax situation is not complicated.
